Ryan Carson threw five shutout innings to lead the United States Sports University to a game one victory against Southeastern Baptist College at the Daphne Sports Complex on Tuesday. Carson pitched five innings, striking out eight and only allowing two hits in the Eagle's 7-3 victory. The Eagles dropped game two of the doubleheader by a score of 17-4.
In game one, the Eagles took a 1-0 first inning lead as
Randy Hernandez singled after one out, stole second and then scored on a two-out base hit from
Andrew Garza. USSU made it 2-0 in the fourth inning as
Evan Jacob led off the inning with a single and later scored on a RBI hit from Alex Maguire. The Crusaders scored a run in the top of the sixth off reliever
Mitchel Sampson before the Eagles blew open the game with a five-run sixth inning. Jacob scored the first run on a botched infield fly before
Hayden Phillips added an RBI single before
Weston Brock blasted a two-run homerun.
In game two, Jacob led the Eagles with three hits. The Eagles bullpen faltered allowing 15 runs in the final three innings as the Crusaders took advantage of six walks, three hit batsmen and three errors.
The Eagles are 17-16 on the year and finish with a four-game weekend series against Lighthouse Christian in Gulf Breeze, Florida on Saturday and Sunday.
