FORT WORTH, Texas – The United States Sports University baseball team split Wednesday's doubleheader against Arlington Baptist.

Game 1 | Arlington Baptist 8, USSU 2
The Eagles (17-13) were held scoreless through the first five innings before breaking through in the sixth when
Daniel Howell hit a solo home run to make it 7-1.
Â
USSU added a run in the seventh. Alexander Maguire singled and later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Napoleon Colston to trim the deficit to 8-2.

Arlington Baptist broke the game open with a six-run fourth inning, highlighted by a two-run home run from Larry Hicks and a two-run single from Cannon Harper to take a 6-0 lead.
Â
Howell led the Eagles with two hits, including his home run, while
Chase Jones and Maguire each added two hits as USSU totaled seven.
Â
On the mound,
Deagan Dailey (2-3) took the loss after allowing five runs over 3.1 innings.
Jakson Stewart and
Jaden Brown worked in relief.

Game 2 | USSU 11, Arlington Baptist 9
USSU jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first and adding one in the second before plating three in the third to build a 6-1 lead. The Eagles capitalized on Arlington Baptist miscues, scoring multiple runs on errors throughout the early innings.

The Eagles added two more in the fourth and one in the fifth to extend the lead to 9-2.

Arlington Baptist cut into the deficit with a three-run home run from Larry Hicks to make it 9-5 in the sixth.
Â
USSU responded with two insurance runs in the seventh. Howell delivered an RBI single and another run scored on an error to push the lead to 11-5.
Â
Arlington Baptist made one final push in the bottom half, scoring four runs to cut the deficit to 11-9, but the Eagles held on to secure the win.
Â
Howell led the Eagles with two hits and two RBIs while
Cory Parker added two hits and an RBI.
Andrew Garza drove in two runs and Jones added two RBIs.
Â
Owen Guth (3-1) earned the win, yielding five runs over six innings.
Brayden Scott worked in relief before
Victor Tyo recorded the final out to earn his fourth save of the season.

Up Next
The Eagles finish their road stretch with a three-game series against Southeastern Baptist College. The series is scheduled for April 11-12.
