USSU Dominates Dillard in Midweek Doubleheader

DAPHNE, Ala. – The United States Sports University baseball swept Dillard (La.) in dominating fashion in Wednesday's doubleheader at the Daphne Sports Complex.
 
Game One | USSU 15, Dillard 1
USSU scored a season-high 15 runs on a season-high 15 hits and 15 RBIs while recording a program-record seven doubles.
 
Dillard took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Noah Riley.
 
The Eagles answered with nine runs in the bottom of the first. Napoleon Colston doubled and scored on a double by Cory Parker. Dominick Hartman reached on an error that allowed Parker to score, and Daniel Howell followed with a bunt single that brought home another run. Andrew Garza added an RBI double, Hayden Jones lifted a sacrifice fly, Kade Wall singled home a run and Parker knocked a two-run single into right field. Hartman capped the inning with a double to drive in Colston and make it 9-1.
 
USSU added three runs in the third. Evan Jacob singled and later scored on a single by Hartman, Howell followed with an RBI single and Garza delivered another RBI double to extend the lead to 12-1.
 
The Eagles added a run in the fourth when Nate Perez grounded out to score Chase Jones.
 
USSU closed the scoring in the sixth when John (Porter) Wilsey hit a two-run home run to left field, marking the first of his career.
 
Garza finished 2-for-4 with a career-high two doubles and two RBIs. Parker went 2-for-3 with a double and three RBIs in his team-leading 10th multi-hit game of the season while Hartman added two hits and three RBIs. Chase Jones recorded two hits and scored three times. Jacob pushed his reached base streak to 17 games, which leads the team.
 
Jaden Brown (1-1) earned the win, allowing one run on three hits over five innings while striking out a season-high four. Connor Moseley made his collegiate debut in relief, tossing two scoreless innings.
 
Game Two | USSU 11, Dillard 5
USSU stole a season-high five bases in the win.
 
Dillard took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Noah Riley, but the Eagles answered in the bottom half. Hartman singled home Colston, and Hartman later scored on a stolen base and throwing error to give USSU a 2-1 lead.
 
The Eagles added two runs in the second. Wall singled to drive in a run, and Colston followed with an RBI groundout to make it 4-1.
 
USSU extended the lead in the third when Howell hit a two-run home run to center, pushing the advantage to 6-1.
 
The Eagles added two more runs in the fourth. Chase Jones was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, and Alexander Maguire followed with an RBI single to make it 8-1.
 
USSU broke it open with three runs in the fifth. Colston scored on a throwing error, Hartman doubled home Parker and Wilsey added an RBI fielder's choice to extend the lead to 11-1.
 
Dillard scored once in the sixth on a sacrifice fly and added three runs in the seventh on a two-run single by K'Wally Williams and an RBI single by Donovan Jackson Jr. to close the scoring.
 
Hartman finished with two hits and two RBIs while Howell went 3-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Maguire added two hits and an RBI, and Wall drove in a run.
 
Owen Guth (2-1) earned the win, allowing one run on four hits over five innings with four strikeouts. Case Hager and Connor Laughery worked in relief to close out the game.
