Eagles Open Series Versus Millers With Doubleheader Sweep

DAPHNE, Ala. – The United States Sports University baseball team swept both games of Saturday's doubleheader against John Melvin University at the Daphne Sports Complex.
 
Game One | USSU 6, John Melvin 3
The Eagles (6-4) broke a scoreless tie in the third inning when Braden Braud singled through the left side to score Chase Jones.
 
USSU added four runs in the fifth. Hayden Jones singled to start the inning and Braud tripled to center field to make it 2-0. Napoleon Colston reached on an error that allowed Braud to score and Evan Jacob followed with a two-run home run to left field to extend the lead to 5-0.
 
The Millers (10-4) scored three runs in the sixth, capitalizing on three USSU errors and an RBI single from JT Teuton to cut the deficit to 5-3.
 
The Eagles added an insurance run in the sixth when Braud drew a bases-loaded walk to score Nate Perez, who pinch ran.
 
Braud finished 2-for-2 with a triple and three RBIs. Jacob added a home run and two RBIs, while Colston contributed a hit and an RBI.
 
Daniel Howell (1-1) earned the win, allowing three runs, two earned, on six hits over six innings with four strikeouts. Victor Tyo recorded his second save of the season with a scoreless seventh, striking out two.
 
Game Two | USSU 14, John Melvin 10
USSU scored four runs in the first inning behind an RBI single from Jacob, a two-run single from Andrew Garza and a heads-up scoring play from Colston.
 
John Melvin answered with a run in the third, but USSU added two more in the bottom half. Dominick Hartman doubled and scored on a follow-up double by Garza. Jones added an RBI single to make it a 6-1 lead. Kade Wall scored on a ground out the following inning, bringing the lead to 7-1.
 
After the Millers cut it to 7-5 with a four-run fifth that included a three-run homer by Lincoln Dupree, the Eagles broke the game open with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth. Jones scored on a wild pitch, Howell delivered an RBI pinch hit, Cory Parker and Jacob each drew RBI walks, and Hartman capped the inning with a base-clearing double to push the lead to 14-5.
 
John Melvin scored two in the sixth and added three in the seventh on a home run by Cabet Blanchard, but could not close the gap.
 
Hartman finished with two doubles and three RBIs. Garza had two hits, a double and three RBIs. Jacob and Parker drove in two runs apiece.
 
Morgan (Henry) Sauber (2-0) earned the win, allowing five runs over five innings. Giovanny Perez and Jakson Stewart worked in relief to secure the victory.
