Box Score 2 Daphne, AL - The United States Sports University's Softball Team wrapped up their inaugural season by falling to Spring Hill College in a pair of games at the Daphne Sports Complex on Tuesday afternoon. The Eagles lost by scores of 5-1 and 14-4.
In game one, the Eagles manged five hits and scored their only run in the 5th innings as
Ahlexus Lackey drove home
Emma Morgan with an RBI single. Spring HIll scored three runs in the third inning for all the runs they would need. Morgan led the Eagles with a pair of hits.
Ryleigh Merritt took the pitching loss for USSU as she pitched a complete game, Merritt had one strikeout and allowed no walks and gave up four earned runs.
In game two, Spring Hill opened with a four-run first inning to put the Eagles in a hole. USSU countered with a pair of runs in the third inning as
Isabelle Calagaz had an RBI single and
Aralee Beene had an RBI sacrifice fly. The Eagles scored single runs in the fourth and fifth innings but it was to no avail as Spring Hill scored four runs in the fifth inning and added five more in the sixth to claim the victory. USSU finishes their inaugural season with a record of 7-32. The Eagles did not have a senior on the roster and gained valuable experience against a very tough schedule.
