Box Score 2 Daphne, AL - The United States Sports University's Softball Team rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to gain an exciting 11-10 comeback victory over Stillman College on Thursday afternoon at the Daphne Sports Complex to gain a split in a doubleheader. Trailing 10-9 entering the bottom ot the seventh,
Isabelle Calagaz led off the inning with a single and was sacrificed to second base by
Aralee Beene.
Sheonte Barginere then singled putting the winning run on base. Coach Morgan Cinello pulled the right strings pinch-hitting
Sydney Taylor who delivered a walk-off double giving the Eagles the win in the nitecap of the doubleheader.
After Stillman jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning, the Eagles then plated nine runs in the bottom half to gain a 9-3 lead.
Ahlexus Lackey, in her second at bat of the inning, delivered the biggest hit with a three-run triple to make it 9-3 after one inning of play. The Tigers then stormed back with a six-run second inning to tie the game at 9-9. Stillman added a run in the top of the third to take a 10-9 lead. The game then remained scoreless until the Eagles heroics in the bottom half of the seventh.
Desiree Denmark went the distance to gain the victory as she didn't walk a single batter in the contest.
In game one, the Eagles jumped out to a 3-0 first inning lead as Calagaz tripled in a pair of runs. Stillman answered with a four-run second inning to take a 4-3 lead. The Eagles tied the game in the bottom half of the inning as Lackey singled in Ashleigh Merritt. The Eagles were unable to plate a run the rest of the way as Stillman claimed the 8-4 victory. Calagaz notched two of the Eagle's six hits in the contest. Merritt took the loss in the complete game outing only allowing four earned runs and not walking a batter.
USSU will finish their season in a home doubleheader, taking on Spring Hill College next Tuesday at the Daphne Sports Complex.
