Box Score 2 Crowley, LA - The United States Sports University's Softball Team got back to winning ways with a doubleheader sweep of John Melvin University in Crowley, Louisiana on Thursday, by scores of 6-1 and 14-10.
In game one,
Ryleigh Merritt picked up the pitching win for the Eagles.Â
Ahlexus Lackey was 3 for 4 at the plate with a solo home run. The game was a tight affair remaining scoreless after five innings. The Eagles took, a 1-0 lead in the top half of the sixth inning on Lackey's home run. USSU broke the game open in the top of the 7th with a five-run inning with the scoring occurring all after two outs. Lackey had a two-run single to give the Eagles a 3-0 lead.Â
Aralee Beene followed with a two-run double and Merritt closed out the scoring with an RBI single. Merritt pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits while striking out four and walking one.
In game two, the Eagles used a huge comeback to gain the sweep. Trailing 8-4 entering the sixth inning, USSU scored six runs in the sixth and four more in the seventh inning. The big hits in the sixth were a two-run double by
Sydney Taylor to cut the lead to 8-6.Â
Liana Gonzalez later added a two-run single to give the Eagles a 10-8 lead. USSU expanded the lead with the help of 7th inning hits by
Jaci Hagler which scored a run and a two-run single by Merritt. Merritt came in relief of
Desiree Denmark to pick up her second winning decision on the day.
USSU will host Stillman College on April 3rd in Daphne with a 12:00 P.M. double-header.
