Box Score 2 Alexandria, LA - The United States Sports University's Softball team lost a doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon to LSU-Alexandria by scores of 6-0 and 5-4. The Eagles took on the NAIA 15th ranked Generals as they continue their highly challenging schedule.
In game one, the Eagles managed five hits led by
Jaci Hagler and
Aralee Beene's two hits each.
Ryleigh Merritt took the pitching loss striking out three and walking just one.
Game two was a much tighter affair as the Eagles fell behind 1-0 after one inning. USSU tied the game in the second inning as
Emma Morgan scored on a fielders choice off the bat of
Liana Gonzalez. The Eagles then took a 3-1 lead in the second as Merritt had a two-run single.
Morgan Courtney scored on a sacrifice bunt by
Heather Maxwell to give the Eagles a 4-1 lead after their at bat in the 4th inning. The Generals added a run in the bottom half of the 4th before scoring three runs in the bottom of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. That lead would stand up for LSU-A as they retired six of the final seven Eagles hitters. Merritt took the loss in game two giving up four earned runs and striking out three.
USSU will return to action on St. Patrick's Day as they travel across the bay to take on Spring Hill College in a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
