Box Score 2 Alexandria, LA - The United States Sports Academy Softball Team won a pair of one-run games on Saturday in Alexandria, Louisiana to even their record at 2-2. The Eagles defeated Texas A&M at Texarkana by a 4-3 margin and then defeated Central Baptist College 6-5.
In game one of the day the Eagles scored the go-ahead run in the 4th inning on an
Ahlexus Lackey single that scored
Heather Maxwell which proved to be the winning run.
Ryleigh Merritt pitched 4 and 2/3 of relief to pick up the win. Maxwell and
Liana Gonzalez each had a pair of hits to pace USSA.
In game two, the Eagles jumped out to 5-0 first inning lead before watching Central Baptist tie the game in the top of the 7th with a four-run inning. In the bottom of the 7th, Lackey led off with a single to centerfield. Lackey moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Jaci Hager,
Hailey Vanbrimmer followed with a single to left to put runners on the corners with one out. Vanbrimmer then stole second to put runners on second and third. After a walk to Gonzalez loaded the bases, it lined up for
Aralee Beene to deliver the heroics and Beene singled to left scoring Lackey on a walk-off single to make for a fun ride home for the Lady Eagles. The game one win marked the first collegiate head coaching win for Morgan Cinello.
The Eagles return to action this Wednesday with a short trip over Mobile Bay to play the University of Mobile in a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
