PENSACOLA, Fla. – The United States Sports University volleyball team fell 3-1 on the road to NCCAA powerhouse Pensacola Christian on Tuesday.
How it Happened
USSU (2-5) took an early 4-3 lead before Pensacola Christian (5-0) answered with a 5-0 run to take control. The Eagles stayed within striking distance early, but PCC continued to build its advantage and took the opener, 25-13.
USSU again started strong, using back-to-back Emmory McMurtray aces to take a 5-3 lead and extending it to 8-4. PCC responded with six straight points and eventually took a 15-9 lead. Pensacola Christian closed the set, 25-15.
After PCC built a 12-7 lead, USSU fought back to tie the set at 19-19. The Eagles eventually took a 23-22 lead before PCC forced extra points. After a close battle, USSU took the third set, 31-29.
The fourth set stood at 5-5 early before PCC used another 5-0 run to jump ahead, 10-5. After another closely contested game, Pensacola Christian pulled away, 25-18.

Jeya Dupris led the USSU attack with a team-high 11 kills. She also added five blocks for 13.5 points.

Jursey Foote totaled a team-leading 19 assists and 11 digs, while McMurtrary added 10 digs.

Vera Burns recorded six kills and five block assists.
- USSU's 31 points in the third set were a season high.
- USSU finished with 45 digs and eight blocks while Pensacola Christian recorded 46 kills and hit .186.
