HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The United States Sports University men's soccer team's season opener against Texas Wesleyan was suspended due to weather after the first half Friday.
 
The Eagles started strong with a 1-0 lead going into halftime. Francisco Pineda scored after a shot from DeMarcus Hawkins rebounded off the Texas Wesleyan (0-1) goalkeeper in the fourth minute.
 
The match was halted by a weather delay just before the second half kicked off. Following an extended delay, the match was ultimately suspended due to weather. The match will not be completed.
 
USSU will prepare for its Continental Athletic Conference opener against Florida National on Friday. The match is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Danny Owens Field on the campus of William Carey University.
