DAPHNE, Ala. – The No. 5 United States Sports University softball team battled with Spring Hill in Thursday's doubleheader, falling in two hard-fought contests at the Daphne Sports Complex.

Game 1 | Spring Hill 6, USSU 3
Spring Hill struck first in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly, but the Eagles answered in the bottom half.
Aralee Beene singled, stole second and later scored on an RBI single by
Annabeth (AB) Parrish to tie the game at 1-1.

The Badgers took control in the third with three runs, capitalizing on multiple errors and timely hits to build a 4-1 lead.
Â
USSU answered in the bottom of the third when Beene walked, advanced to third and scored on an RBI groundout by
Isabelle Calagaz to cut the deficit to 4-2.

Spring Hill added a run in the fifth on an RBI single and another in the seventh on an RBI double to extend the lead to 6-2.
Â
The Eagles plated one in the seventh when Calagaz doubled to drive in
Irina Sanford but saw their rally fall short.
Â
Calagaz led the Eagles with two hits and two RBIs while Parrish added an RBI. Beene scored twice and stole three bases as USSU totaled six hits.

Breana Barnes (6-8) took the loss, allowing six runs, three earned, on nine hits over seven innings.

Game 2 | Spring Hill 8, USSU 5
Spring Hill opened the scoring in the first, but the Eagles answered in the bottom half when
Ahlexus Lackey reached on an error to bring home Calagaz and tie the game at 1-1.

USSU took control in the second with four runs.
Morgan Courtney delivered an RBI double, Sanford followed with an RBI single and
Kassidy (Rowdy) New added an RBI double. Beene capped the inning with a sacrifice fly to give the Eagles a 5-1 lead.

Spring Hill chipped away with three runs in the fifth, highlighted by a two-run double, to cut the lead to 5-4.
Â
The Badgers tied the game in the sixth on an RBI single.
Â
Spring Hill took the lead for good in the seventh, scoring three runs to make it 8-5.
Â
New, Beene, Lackey, Courtney and Sanford each recorded an RBI. The Eagles finished with five hits.
Â
McKynzi Dawson started and allowed four runs, Â three earned, over 4.1 innings.
Breana Barnes (6-9) took the loss in relief.
