TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The United States Sports University softball team split Thursday's doubleheader against Stillman, winning the first game 12-4 in six innings before falling 6-3 in game two.

USSU (12-15) jumped out early with four runs in the first.
Sydney Taylor singled home a run,
Isabelle Calagaz followed with an RBI single and
Jaci Hagler delivered a two-run single to make it 4-0.

The Eagles added three more in the second.
Aralee Beene drove in two with a single and Taylor followed with an RBI single to extend the lead to 7-0.

USSU added two runs in the fourth. Taylor singled in a run and
Annabeth (AB) Parrish followed with an RBI single to make it 9-1.

After Stillman (17-18) answered with three runs in the fifth, the Eagles put the game away in the sixth.
Ahlexus Lackey drove in a run on a groundout, Hagler added an RBI groundout and another run scored on an error to push the lead to 12-4.

Taylor led the Eagles with a career-high three runs scored, finishing 4-for-4 with two RBIs. Hagler drove in a career-high three runs, highlighted by a two-run single in the opening inning.

Beene recorded two RBIs while Parrish added two hits and an RBI as USSU totaled 14 hits.

Breana Barnes (6-6) earned the win, tossing her eighth complete game of the season while allowing four runs on seven hits with three strikeouts.

USSU struck first in the opening inning when Calagaz drove in
Kassidy (Rowdy) New on a fielder's choice to make it 1-0.

The Eagles added two more in the second. Beene drove in a run on a fielder's choice and Taylor followed with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 3-0.

Stillman answered with two runs in the second on a triple and a wild pitch, then tied the game in the third on an RBI single.

The Tigers took the lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly, making it 4-3.

Stillman added two insurance runs in the sixth on a two-run single to push the lead to 6-3.

New led the Eagles with three hits and two runs scored while Beene and Taylor each drove in a run. Calagaz added an RBI as USSU totaled nine hits.

Ryleigh Merritt (5-6) took the loss, allowing six runs on seven hits over six innings.

USSU returns home to host No. 14 Mobile in a doubleheader on Tuesday at the Daphne Sports Complex. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
