DAPHNE, Ala. – The No. 4 United States Sports University baseball team defeated John Melvin Christian College 8-5 at the Daphne Sports complex on Friday.

USSU jumped out early with two runs in the first.
Daniel Howell delivered an RBI single and
Chase Jones followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0.

The Eagles added three more in the third. Howell drove in a run with a single and Jones broke the game open with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 5-0.

John Melvin answered with three runs in the fifth, but USSU responded in the bottom half when
Dominick Hartman singled home a run to push the lead to 6-3.

The Eagles added two insurance runs in the seventh.
Evan Jacob delivered an RBI single and
Hayden Jones brought home another run on a fielder's choice to make it 8-3.

John Melvin scored twice in the ninth, but USSU held on to secure the win.
Â
Jones led the Eagles with three RBIs, highlighted by his home run, while Howell and Hartman each added two hits and two RBIs.

On the mound,
Morgan (Henry) Sauber (7-0) earned the win, allowing five runs, four earned, over 8.1 innings with five strikeouts. Sauber's seventh win marks the most by a pitcher in program history.
