Eagles Shine in Historic Debut of USSU Invitational

MOBILE, Ala. – The United States Sports University track and field team hosted the first meet in program history at the USSU Eagles Invitational, highlighted by multiple program records, personal bests and several event victories at Jaguar Field on Saturday.
 
Jasper Nero led the Eagles in the field events, breaking the USSU program record in the hammer throw with a mark of 44.65m (146-6). Nero also earned a second-place finish in the shot put (12.74m/41-9.75) and recorded a personal-best mark in the discus at 38.13m (125-1).
 
Deshaun Williams turned in a strong performance in the throws, placing third in the hammer throw with a personal-best mark of 35.89m (117-9) and adding a third-place finish in the shot put with a throw of 12.17m (39-11.25).
 
Hunter Hall delivered a victory in the discus, winning the event with a program-record mark of 46.33m (152-0). Hall also marked the first men's javelin throw in school history at 36.45m (119-7).
 
Jacob Hagan added a third-place finish in the discus with a personal-best mark of 40.30m (132-3) and recorded a personal best in the shot put at 10.98m (36-0.25).
 
On the women's side, Shaterica Griffin broke her own program record in the javelin, recording a throw of 30.61m (100-5), which was good for third place.
 
On the track, Christian Aikens led the Eagles with a win in the 200m, breaking the program record with a time of 21.13. Aikens also earned a third-place finish in the 100m with a new school-record time of 10.51.
 
Cole Hayward earned a victory in the 400m, crossing the line in 49.73.
 
USSU also saw record-setting performances on the women's side, where Angelina Bercant broke the program records in both the 100m and 200m, recording times of 12.77 and 27.10, respectively. Maryam Williams added another school record in the 400m, finishing in 1:00.44.
 
The meet concluded with a victory by the Eagles in the men's 4x400m relay, posting a winning time of 3:19.94. The team consisted of Tyler Johnson, Aikens, Devonte Cheffen and Hayward.
