Eagles Split Doubleheader With Makos

DAPHNE, Ala. – The United States Sports University baseball team split Thursday's doubleheader against Lighthouse Christian at the Daphne Sports Complex.
 
Game One | USSU 6, Lighthouse Christian 4
The Eagles (8-6) rallied from an early four-run deficit to defeat the Makos in game one.
 
Lighthouse Christian scored four runs in the top of the first on five hits.
 
USSU answered in the bottom of the first when Napoleon Colston scored on a fielder's choice by Dominick Hartman.
 
The Eagles cut the deficit to 4-2 in the fourth when Braden Braud stole third and scored on a throwing error by the Lighthouse catcher.
 
USSU took control in the fifth with three runs. Cory Parker singled home a run, and Alexander Maguire followed with a two-run double to right center to give the Eagles a 5-4 lead.
 
Parker added an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI single up the middle to score Nate Perez.
 
Parker finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, and Maguire went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.
 
Owen Guth (1-1) earned the win, allowing four runs over five innings. Morgan (Henry) Sauber recorded his first save with two scoreless innings of relief.
 
Game Two | Lighthouse Christian 7, USSU 5
Chase Jones gave the Eagles an early 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the second inning.
 
Lighthouse Christian answered with two runs in the third on an RBI single and a bases-loaded hit-by-pitch, but USSU responded with three runs in the bottom half. Parker delivered an RBI single, Daniel Howell followed with an RBI single, and Jones added an RBI double to put the Eagles ahead 4-2.
 
The Makos tied the game in the fifth on a pair of RBI singles.
 
After USSU was held scoreless in the fifth and sixth, Lighthouse Christian took the lead in the sixth on an RBI double and added two more runs in the seventh, including an RBI groundout and an unearned run.
 
USSU mounted a late push in the seventh. Hartman doubled and later scored on a single by Parker to cut the deficit to 7-5, but the Eagles could not close the gap.
 
Parker finished 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a walk. Jones went 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs.
 
Brayden Scott (1-1) took the loss in relief.
