USSU Earn 2–2 Draw with Webber International in Tense Clash

Fairhope, AL - The USSU Eagles men's soccer team battled in a thrilling 2–2 draw against Webber International University at the Fairhope Soccer Complex.

The Eagles struck first in the 12th minute, as Carter Willis headed home his first goal of the season to give USSU an early 1–0 advantage. Webber evened the score just past the hour mark, converting a penalty kick in the 60th minute to knot the match at 1–1.

As time ticked down, USSU regained the lead when goalkeeper Kipper Miller ventured forward and delivered an unlikely but dramatic goal in the 85th minute, a moment that electrified the Eagles' sideline. Between the posts, David Sandoval-Cruz was outstanding, recording seven saves on the night to keep the Eagles in contention despite Webber's 31 shots.

However, Webber responded swiftly in the 87th minute, leveling the score at 2–2, where it remained at the final whistle.

Despite being outshot 31–9, the Eagles showed resilience and grit, leaning on Sandoval-Cruz's steady goalkeeping and Miller's late heroics to secure their first result of the season.

USSU is on the road for a midweek matchup against William Carey University on Tuesday, September 9, at 7:00 p.m.
