Sam Blackburn is a globally certified and experienced soccer coach dedicated to developing athletes, coaches, and programs at all levels of the game. With an accomplished background as a national, regional, and university-level player, including representing New Zealand internationally, Sam brings a wealth of expertise and a proven track record of success in player development and team leadership.
Currently serving as the Academy Director and Head Coach at Union 10 FC, Sam is instrumental in executing comprehensive soccer development strategies that have led to state championship successes. His leadership fosters a collaborative and process-driven environment, emphasizing long-term growth for players and coaches alike.
Sam's career highlights include his tenure at IMG Academy, where he guided young athletes through critical stages of their development, implementing innovative methodologies to enhance performance and team cohesion. As the National Talent Centre Head Coach for New Zealand Football and Capital Football Federation, he played a pivotal role in developing future National Team players while overseeing futsal and football programs across the region.
In collegiate soccer, Sam served as an Assistant Coach for men’s soccer programs at the University of Mobile (NAIA) and Spring Hill College (NCAA), achieving significant on-field success and championing curriculum design to develop athletes holistically. His leadership at Gulf Coast Rangers FC and Daphne Rangers Academy also led to multiple state championships, driven by strategic coaching and a values-oriented approach.
Sam holds globally recognized certifications, including a UEFA B Coaching License and a US Soccer C License. Committed to continuous growth, he has earned qualifications from FIFA, UEFA, New Zealand Football, and the Professional Football Scouts Association.
As a player, Blackburn competed for the Rams at the University of Mobile from 2009-2013, playing under the coaching helm of Peter Fuller.
