COLUMBUS, Ga. – The United States Sports University softball team closed the weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic with a hard-fought 7-6 loss in 10 innings to (RV) Campbellsville on Sunday afternoon.

USSU (1-11) took an early lead in the first when
Morgan Courtney and
Kassidy (Rowdy) New singled, and
Ahlexus Lackey followed with an RBI single to make it 1-0. The Eagles added another run in the third on a double by Courtney and an RBI double from New to extend the lead to 2-0.

Campbellsville tied the game in the fifth with two runs, but the Eagles kept the contest even into extra innings. In the eighth, New delivered a sacrifice fly to score Courtney and tie the game at 3-3 after the Tigers had taken the lead in the top half.

Campbellsville scored twice in the ninth to go ahead 5-3, but USSU answered in the bottom half.
Aralee Beene reached on an error to plate a run, and
Desiree Denmark followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 5-5.

The Tigers pushed across two runs in the 10th, and the Eagles answered with a sacrifice fly by New to score
Jaci Hagler, but the rally ended with the tying run left on base.

Courtney finished with two hits and three runs scored, while New had two hits and three RBIs. Lackey added two hits plus an RBI, and
Isabelle Calagaz also recorded a hit as the Eagles totaled eight.

Breana Barnes (0-5) pitched all 10 innings, allowing seven runs, two earned, on nine hits with four walks and three strikeouts.
