Eagles Rally For An Impressive Tie Against Talladega

Box Score DAPHNE, AL — The United States Sports Academy's Men's Soccer team played their best match of the season as they tied Talladega College 1-1, on Thursday night at the Fairhope Soccer Complex. A month and three days after suffering a 9-0 loss to Talladega, the Eagles battled all night long and were rewarded for their effort with the tie.

USSA had a golden opportunity early in the match to take a 1-0 lead but Jaidan Workman's shot from the top of the box ricocheted off the post just 5:39 into the match.  The match remained scoreless through the first half.  The Tornadoes took the lead as Tavar Lawrence scored his 12th goal of the season at the 47:32 mark on an assist from Allen Antah.  The Eagles continued to battle and tied the match at 68:11 on a header from Ramses Martinez with an assist credited to Workman. The goal was Martinez's first of the season.

For the match Talladega out-shot USSA 17-10 however both teams recorded six shots on goal for the match. USSA goalkeeper Adam (AJ) Chambers was outstanding in goal stopping six of seven shots on goal. "I thought AJ was awesome tonight, he kept us in it in the first half with three great saves and the team fed off of him, said Eagles Head Coach Peter Fuller.

The Eagles will look to build on the momentum from tonight as they will take on the University of Mobile next Wednesday in the first round of the College Developmental League Tournament. The Eagles will travel to face the Rams, match date and time will be announced shortly.

"I'm so proud of our guys tonight, the amount of improvement they've shown since we played them last time. We had a game plan and they followed it to a T," added Fuller.

USSA is now 1-6-4 on the season while Talladega finishes their season at 4-5-3.
