Eagles Sweep Doubleheader at XULA

LULING, La. – The United States Sports University softball team swept a doubleheader at Xavier (La.) on Tuesday, earning a 2-1 win in the opener before an 11-2 victory in game two.

Game 1 | USSU 2, Xavier (La.) 1
- Xavier (La.) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning before USSU responded with single runs in the fifth and sixth.
- Morgan Courtney tied the game in the fifth with an RBI groundout, scoring Liana Gonzalez.
- USSU took the lead in the sixth as Gonzalez drew a bases-loaded walk to bring home Aralee Beene.
- Breana Barnes (8-11) tossed her 12th complete game of the season, allowing one run on seven hits while striking out eight.
- Barnes matched the program record eight strikeouts for the second time this season.
- Beene reached base three times, going 1-for-2 with two walks and a run scored.
 
Game 2 | USSU 11, Xavier (La.) 2
- The Eagles broke through late, scoring nine runs over the final three innings to pull away for the win.
- Xavier (La.) took an early 2-0 lead in the second inning before USSU tied the game in the fourth.
- Kassidy (Rowdy) New sparked the offense, going 3-for-5 with a double, triple and RBI while scoring four runs.
- Isabelle Calagaz added three hits and two RBI, and Annabeth (AB) Parrish recorded two hits and an RBI.
- USSU finished with 12 hits, taking advantage of four Xavier errors.
- Ryleigh Merritt (7-8) earned the win with her seventh complete game of the season, allowing three runs on nine hits while striking out six.
